All About Medical Sheepskin

Certified for Medical Use
A certified Australian medical sheepskin is a specially treated, high-density sheepskin product that meets the Australian Standard AS4480.1-1998 for medical use. It is CSIRO-approved, meaning it has passed strict laboratory tests for use in the prevention and treatment of pressure sores. These sheepskins feature a dense wool pile (up to 6000 wool fibres per cm²) and are bonded with a permanent CSIRO label on the leather side. Our Manufacturer ID Number is 14 and is found on the label.
Effective for Pressure Sore Prevention
Yes, certified medical sheepskins are clinically proven to reduce the risk of pressure ulcers by over 50%. Their dense wool pile distributes pressure, reduces shear, and provides airflow—ideal for people with limited mobility.
Who Should Use Medical Sheepskin
People who are bedridden, use wheelchairs, have limited mobility, or suffer from pressure sores can benefit from using medical sheepskin. It provides comfort, moisture control, and pressure relief for long periods of sitting or lying down.
Healthcare Boots – Recommended By Podiatrists
Unlike many boots out there that are made with synthetic wool, we use 100% natural Australian medical-grade sheepskin. Each pair of boots are lined with dense, curly, spring-like wool that acts as a cushioning, helping to relieve pressure and inflammation that can potentially lead to calluses or open sores on the soles of your feet.
With many of our customers choosing the Black Sheep healthcare footwear for their comfort and needs, we’re confident with the quality of our shoes and have also been recommended by local podiatrists to buy for their clients.
